LESSON 1.4: PRAYER & BUSINESS PLANNING: YOUR FIRST BOARD MEETING

We’ve covered some deep, foundational truths in this module. We’ve talked about your business as a ministry, we’ve defined your transformation, and we’ve looked at the biblical blueprints for your success. Now, it’s time to bring it all together in the most important meeting you will ever have: your first board meeting.

Now, when I say “board meeting,” you might be picturing a stuffy room with a long table and a bunch of old guys in suits. Forget that. Your board of directors is you and the Trinity. It’s you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is your leadership team. This is your counsel. And your board meetings? They’re called prayer.

I cannot overstate this: Prayer is the most powerful, strategic, and underutilized tool in business. It’s not a last resort; it’s your first response. It’s not something you do when things go wrong; it’s something you do to make sure things go right. It’s your direct line to the CEO of the universe. Why would you not use it?

Your business is a partnership with God. He’s not a silent partner. He wants to be involved in every decision, every launch, every hire, every piece of content. He has the strategy. He has the wisdom. He has the resources. Your job is to show up, to listen, and to obey.

For a long time, I treated prayer like a cosmic vending machine. I’d put in my request, and I’d expect God to spit out the answer. “God, please make this launch successful.” “God, please give me more followers.” “God, please help me hit my income goal.” And while He is a good Father who wants to give us good gifts, I was missing the point. Prayer is not about getting God to sign off on my plans; it’s about getting my plans to align with His. It’s about surrender. It’s about saying, “God, this is Your business. What do You want to do with it?” That shift from dictation to dialogue changed everything for me. It took the pressure off. It gave me a peace that I had never known. And it unlocked a level of creativity and strategy that I could have never come up with on my own.

So, I want to invite you to establish a rhythm of prayer in your business from day one. And the best way to do that is to create a business prayer journal. This is a dedicated space for you to have your board meetings, to record your prayers, to write down what you’re hearing from God, and to track your progress.

This isn’t about being religious or legalistic. It’s about being relational. It’s about creating a habit of inviting God into the daily operations of your business. Your prayer journal is where you’ll dream with God, where you’ll wrestle with challenges, where you’ll celebrate your wins, and where you’ll find the strength to keep going when things get tough.

So, what do you write in your business prayer journal? You can start by dedicating your business to God. Write out a prayer of consecration, surrendering your plans, your ambitions, your fears, your finances, everything to Him. Ask Him to be the CEO, the Chairman of the Board, the Chief Strategist.

Then, use it as a space for your business planning. Instead of just brainstorming ideas, praystorm them. Ask God for His ideas. Ask Him to show you the needs of your audience. Ask Him for creative strategies, for content ideas, for product names, for launch plans. You’ll be amazed at what He gives you when you just take the time to ask.

And finally, use it to record your gratitude. Every time you make a sale, every time you get a positive comment, every time you see a breakthrough, write it down. This will become your book of remembrance, a testimony to God’s faithfulness in your business. And on the days when you feel discouraged, you can look back and be reminded of all the ways He has come through for you.

Your business is a spiritual journey. And prayer is your compass. It’s what will keep you aligned with your purpose, connected to your source, and focused on what truly matters. So, let’s get ready for your first board meeting. It’s time to partner with the King of kings to build His kingdom through your business.
